83 Marilyn Monroe Quotes That Will Empower You

by Deanna | Jan 5, 2019

Marilyn Monroe… mention of her name exudes glamour, success, love, and mystery. Millions have been obsessed with her even after her untimely passing in 1962.

Who was she though… really? Why even bother knowing who she was? How can her words truly empower us?

When I originally started working on this article, I was only aware of the public view of Marilyn. As I researched her quotes, I discovered who the real person was. I became enraptured by her.

There was Marilyn Monroe… and then there was Norma Jeane.

From Norma Jeane to Marilyn Monroe

Norma Jeane was an intelligent young lady that wore glasses, loved to read, and had a knack for writing poetry. Like all of us, she was just a girl trying to find her place in the world.

Back in the 1940s & 1950s, social gender roles were very strong and she decided to pursue something else aside from being a housewife. She wanted to BE SOMEBODY.

Despite a broken childhood and several years struggling to make ends meet while she pursued her dream to be an actress, Norma-turned-Marilyn used her intelligence, hard work, and a bit of luck to become a bonafide star in the early 1950s. She featured in many critically acclaimed films such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) and The Seven Year Itch (1955).

However, there was a steep price to pay for her stardom.

Norma became non-existent to everyone else as everyone was transfixed on the glamorous, demur Marilyn Monroe.

Over time, after much loss and betrayal, she developed a jaded sense of self and how people perceived her. Eventually she believed that no body really wanted to know who she really was on the inside and only befriended her to gain in self-interest.

She was drowning in the perception of how people thought she was, and she couldn’t keep up with the reputation. Marilyn just wanted to be seen for the person she was, not what people perceived her to be.

Yet, despite it all she was ever so optimistic and always strived to become a better person.

She was forever a dreamer.

Even though she was and is still very famous, she very much embodies the many emotions and feelings all of us women have about success, love, life, and feminism. Being in the spotlight for a decade, she had shared her many empowering thoughts on those subjects.

As you dive into this list of her quotes and sayings, you will get to understand a little more about her and the challenges she experienced throughout her life and career…A lot of which all of us women can relate to even today.

Her legacy lives on with the beautiful and empowering quotes she left behind for all who do love her. Today, be Inspired by the timeless Ms. Monroe.

She is measured by 36-24-36 and inches and ages and numbers, by all the outside things that don’t ever add up to who she is on the inside.
