Eliza Barclay has written an article for Vox debunking a conspiracy theory cooked up by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh about the origin of the coronavirus. The conspiracy comes from at least two rumors. One rumor is that a lab in Wuhan bioengineered the coronavirus. The other rumor is that the coronavirus was found in the wild, brought to the lab, and then escaped into the local population.
Barclay talks to microbiologists who explain that a naturally occurring organism from bats provides a more sensible and profoundly more likely explanation of the coronavirus situation. See
