A Riot of Cool Sneaker Seekers

Hundreds of rioters were dispersed from the Florida Mall near Orlando late Thursday night when a riot broke out over the midnight release of $220 Nike Galaxy Air Foamposite Ones shoes.  The group was disbursed by a group of over 100 police officers.  No arrests nor injuries were reported.

The trendy Nike shoes were timed for release just before this Sunday’s NBA All-Star game in Orlando.

Early Friday, a similar problem occurred at a mall in Hyattsville, Maryland, near Washington, D.C.  One arrest was made out of a crowd of 100.

The Foot Locker store announced early Friday that the shoe’s release was being cancelled at certain malls and stores, in the interest of the safety of the community.

These are not the first mobs going after Nike shoes.  In December of 2011, the release of Nike’s Air Jordans retro shoes caused fights at malls across the country.  Seattle cops used pepper spray to subdue some unruly shoppers.
