List of Dystopian Films

This is a list of dystopian films. A dystopia (from the Greek δυσ- and τόπος, alternatively, cacotopia, kakotopia, cackotopia, or anti-utopia) is an imaginary community or society that is undesirable or frightening.  It is literally translated as "not-good place", an antonym of utopia. Such societies appear in many artistic works, particularly in stories set in a future. Dystopias are often characterized by dehumanization, totalitarian governments, ruthless megacorporations, environmental disaster, or other characteristics associated with a dramatic decline in society. Dystopian societies appear in many subgenres of fiction and are often used to draw attention to potential as well as real-world trends and issues in society, which can range from environmental, cultural, political, economical, religious, psychological, ethical, scientific to technological issues, which if unaddressed could potentially lead to dystopia.

Not to be confused with List of apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction.
