Which wolves became dogs?

Carrie Arnold of National Geographic has an article that looks at DNA studies of dogs and wolves to help determine the origin of the domestication of dogs.

Dogs appear to be the descendents of wolves from Southeast Asia, probably from China around 33,000 years ago.  There was subsequently a broader expansion of dogs into diverse worldwide distribution about 15,000 years ago.
