The Boeing 737 MAX has a computerized
flight management system to prevent stall during flight. In a stall there isn’t enough air rushing
across the wings to keep the airplane flying.
This can be a particular problem for the 737 MAX due to the forward
position of the two engines, which are placed for maximum efficient fuel use
rather than minimal potential for stalling.
Mark Forkner was Boeing’s senior 737
test pilot in 2016. Now it has been
revealed that he told another Boeing co-worker that he unintentionally misled
safety regulators about problems with the MCAS flight control system that he
uncovered during simulator testing.
