Stop telling people to go to therapy like it's a “magical solution”.

– I don't know who needs to read this, so all of you are going to read it. I
know several extremely intelligent people who therapy hasn't done shit for.
Especially if you are poor and on Medicaid insurance. Therapy doesn't work for
everyone. I'm sick of awesome people being treated like they are unintelligent,
stubborn, non compliant, or unwilling because therapy doesn't work for them.
Take it from someone who's been attending therapy consistently since they were
forced into it as a young child. Take it from someone who's been experimented
on with every medication under the sun.
Some people aren't able to change the environments they are in. Most of them being children, tweens, teens, adolescents and young adults who are dependent on abusive parents. A lot of people advocating the "Wonders of therapy" are rich enough to afford someone who's competent. Or they were on Medicaid, got extremely lucky because they clicked and their therapist wasn't completely incompetent. Medication can help but for a lot of people, it makes them completely emotionless or flat. People who are struggling don't need the unsolicited advice of therapy and personality numbing medication hurled at them. It seems to be a common response towards people.
So the next time someone is venting or struggling, please don't go on autopilot and suggest therapy. Therapy and medication can only do so much. Especially if a barrage of negative variables does not change. Especially if said individual is being gaslighted by one or multiple people. Especially if they've endured long term trauma or cycles that will not cease. Society has a habit of gaslighting people. I know that I've felt like the whole world around me is going completely insane and I'm the only one who sees it. I've been gaslighted by just about everyone about my situation till they saw the raw truth, then changed their stance. I would never want anyone else to endure that.
