Online Economics Education

Marginal Revolution University, called MRUniversity for short, is an online education website run by Tyler Cowen and Alex Tabarrok, bloggers at the Marginal Revolution weblog and economics professors at George Mason University. The website includes free-to-watch videos, interactive comments, and the option of actively enrolling and participating in courses, in the fashion of massive open online courses (MOOCs). The videos and course materials are also accessible for those who do not enroll in a course or register on the site. The videos are structured as simple PowerPoint slide presentations with voice-overs by the speakers. The audio can also be downloaded separately. Those who formally register for a course and take the final examination can get a certificate of completion.

History

Marginal Revolution University was announced by Tyler Cowen on the Marginal Revolution blog on September 5, 2012.

Alex Tabarrok subsequently announced that Marginal Revolution University's first course would be on development economics.

Around October 1, 2012, the first videos for the development economics course started going up on the site, and more videos were gradually rolled out through December 2012.
